Golden Mile Food Equity Community Project

In the summer of 2022 I assisted lead artist Connie Tong in facilitating the Golden Mile Food Equity Community Project. This was an initiative to engage members of the community in painting picnic tables and flower pots for Feed Scarborough's community garden next to the food bank, while learning about issues in food equity, at every step from the planting of seeds to placing food on our tables. The project was a great success, with both adults and children contributing their creative handiwork under the guidance of professional artists. We used poured paint as well as brush painting to decorate four tables with the food equity themes: for the last table we invited visitors at the Harvest Festival to add their own handprints and to paint flowers on a picnic table dedicated to the spirit of community.
